New surgical map aims to spare patients from debilitating arm swelling

NCT ID NCT00572481

Summary

This study is testing a new surgical mapping technique called Axillary Reverse Mapping (ARM). The goal is to help surgeons see and avoid the delicate lymph vessels that drain the arm during breast cancer surgery. By protecting these vessels, researchers hope to significantly reduce the risk of patients developing long-term, painful arm swelling known as lymphedema.
