Could a simple drink before surgery stop muscle loss in cancer patients?
NCT ID NCT00497380
Summary
This study tested whether drinking a special protein supplement rich in arginine for one week before breast cancer surgery could help patients maintain muscle and recover better. Researchers compared 19 women having cancer surgery to a small group having preventive surgery, measuring how their bodies processed protein. The goal was to see if this nutritional strategy could break a cycle of muscle breakdown often seen after cancer operations.
