New urine test could save lives from deadly herb poisoning

NCT ID NCT07456592

First seen Mar 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study aims to create a quick, easy-to-use test (like a pregnancy test) that can detect toxic substances from certain Chinese herbs (aconite) in urine. Aconite poisoning can cause serious heart and nerve problems, but current lab tests take too long. The test will be tried on 90 adults, including those with suspected poisoning and those taking the herbs safely, to see how accurate it is.
