Can a tiny dose of apixaban save dialysis catheters?

NCT ID NCT07404345

First seen Feb 14, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a low dose of the blood thinner apixaban to the usual heparin lock can help prevent dialysis catheters from failing. About 54 adults with end-stage kidney disease who have a new tunneled catheter will take apixaban or a placebo for up to 24 months. The goal is to see if the drug reduces the need for clot-busting medicines or catheter replacement.
