No pain, just expectation: brain changes when you think it will hurt
NCT ID NCT07407595
First seen Feb 16, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 10 times
Summary
This study looks at how simply expecting pain—without actually feeling any—can change the way your brain talks to your muscles. Healthy adults will be told a harmless cream might cause pain, while others are told it does nothing. Researchers use a non-invasive brain stimulation technique to measure brain activity before and after, aiming to understand how fear of pain affects movement. This could help improve treatments for chronic pain.
