Scientists probe if antibiotics damage your 'Second Brain'

NCT ID NCT05834036

Summary

This study aimed to understand how a short course of antibiotics might affect the nerve and support cells in the human colon. Researchers gave 10 healthy volunteers a common antibiotic for one week and took small colon tissue samples before and after treatment. They analyzed these samples to see if the antibiotic caused changes to these cells, which could help explain why some people develop digestive problems after taking antibiotics.
