Simple antibiotic pill could stop painful abscess comeback

NCT ID NCT04549311

Summary

This trial tested whether giving antibiotics after surgically draining a perianal abscess helps prevent painful complications. Adults who needed the drainage procedure were randomly assigned to receive either standard care with antibiotics or standard care without them. The main goal was to see if a larger future study is possible, and to check if antibiotics might lower the chance of the abscess returning or forming a chronic tunnel called a fistula.
