Ankle fracture study: which surgery heals better?
NCT ID NCT07447336
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two surgical techniques for fixing a broken ankle bone (the lateral malleolus) in adults aged 18 to 60. One method uses a metal plate and screws, the other uses a single screw placed inside the bone. Researchers will track healing time, pain, and function in 52 participants to see which approach works better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Plate or intramedullary screw fixation (surgical procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show which surgical method leads to faster healing and better function for ankle fractures.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 52 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both procedures carry standard surgical risks like infection or nerve injury.
