Paws and progress: animal therapy sparks brain activity in unresponsive patients

NCT ID NCT06931665

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study explores whether spending time with therapy animals can increase brain complexity in patients who are minimally conscious after a brain injury. Researchers will measure brain waves (EEG) and other body signals in 26 participants to see if animal interaction boosts brain activity. The goal is to understand if animal-assisted therapy can help these patients, not to cure them.
