New anesthesia approach aims to protect brain function in frail surgery patients

NCT ID NCT07486336

Summary

This study is testing whether a different type of anesthesia might help protect the brain and improve recovery for frail older adults having major abdominal surgery. It will compare the standard 'fully asleep' general anesthesia to a 'partially awake' spinal anesthesia with light sedation. The main goal is to see if this new approach is practical and safe, and if it reduces confusion and thinking problems after surgery.
