Eye movements may reveal hidden awareness during surgery

NCT ID NCT07199049

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study watches 60 adults having planned surgery under general anesthesia. Researchers will check eyelid reflex, eye movements, and pupil size at three key times: after falling asleep, when the first cut is made, and halfway through surgery. They want to see if these simple eye signs can help tell how deep the anesthesia is and possibly spot when a person might be aware during surgery. The goal is to find a non-invasive way to monitor anesthesia depth.
