Loud OR alarms may distract trainee surgeons, study says

NCT ID NCT07089485

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 27, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study looks at whether lowering the volume of anesthesia alarms can help surgical trainees think more clearly during practice surgeries. About 26 surgeons will perform simulated procedures with either standard or quieter alarms. Researchers will measure mental workload using heart rate, pupil changes, and questionnaires to see if a quieter setting reduces distraction without risking safety.
