New hope for deadly lung fungus: cheaper pill may replace toxic IV
NCT ID NCT05468372
First seen May 23, 2026 ยท Last updated May 23, 2026
Summary
This study tested two medicines for a severe lung infection called pulmonary mucormycosis, which has a high death rate. The standard treatment, amphotericin B, is given through an IV and can cause serious side effects. The study compared it to posaconazole, a pill that may be easier and safer. 82 adults with the infection took part to see if posaconazole works as well as the standard drug.
