New membrane could speed healing of eye infections
NCT ID NCT07559149
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether adding a special amniotic membrane containing riboflavin and moxifloxacin to standard PACK-CXL therapy helps heal infected corneal ulcers faster. 32 adults with moderate-to-severe ulcers took part. The goal was to see if the membrane improves corneal healing and reduces inflammation compared to standard treatment alone.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
amniotic membrane containing riboflavin and moxifloxacin
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a better way to treat infected corneal ulcers, speeding up healing and reducing inflammation.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 32 participants. The results may not apply to all patients, and the added membrane might not improve outcomes over standard care.
