Heart attack survivors get new hope: drug trial aims to stop second cardiac arrest

Summary

This study is testing whether giving the heart rhythm drug amiodarone for 72 hours to patients who survive a specific type of heart attack can prevent them from having another dangerous heart rhythm or dying within 30 days. It will involve 674 adults who were successfully resuscitated from a heart attack that started with a shockable rhythm. The goal is to see if this preventive treatment improves survival and reduces complications during hospital recovery.
