New breathing trick may help ALS patients cough easier
NCT ID NCT06249412
First seen Jan 22, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looks at whether adding a small amount of positive pressure during pauses in cough-assist therapy can help people with ALS cough more effectively. ALS weakens the muscles needed to cough, raising the risk of lung infections. The study will compare cough strength with and without this extra pressure in 11 adults with ALS who already use or are starting cough-assist therapy.
