New spinal fluid test aims to end misdiagnosis of common dementia
NCT ID NCT07166744
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This study aims to see if measuring a specific form of the protein alpha-synuclein in spinal fluid can reliably distinguish dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) from Alzheimer's disease. About 286 adults aged 50 and older with signs of either condition will have a lumbar puncture to collect fluid. The goal is to improve diagnosis, since misdiagnosis can lead to dangerous reactions to certain medications in people with DLB.
