Three-Year trial tests weekly infusions to slow lung damage in genetic emphysema

Summary

This study is testing whether weekly intravenous infusions of a replacement protein can slow the progression of lung damage in people with emphysema caused by Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. About 345 participants will receive either one of two doses of the protein therapy or a placebo for three years, with lung CT scans used to measure changes. The goal is to see if this treatment can better control the underlying disease compared to no treatment.
