Sleep drug tested to fight alcohol cravings
NCT ID NCT06326684
Summary
This early-stage study is testing if a medication called suvorexant, which blocks a brain chemical called orexin, can reduce the motivation to drink alcohol. Researchers will observe 30 adults with alcohol use disorder in a controlled inpatient setting to see if the drug affects their choices between alcohol and money, as well as their cravings and mood. The goal is to see if this approach, which has shown promise in animal studies, could help control problematic drinking in people.
