New blood test could spot hidden alcohol problems in seniors

NCT ID NCT02822911

Summary

This French study aimed to see if a specific blood test (Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin or CDT) is better at spotting chronic alcohol abuse in people aged 60 and older than the standard tests and questionnaires doctors usually use. Researchers enrolled 194 older adults from hospitals and clinics. They compared the CDT test results with other common markers and a short alcohol screening questionnaire to see which method was most accurate for this age group.
