Ultrasound reveals hidden risk of airway swelling during routine surgery
NCT ID NCT07021482
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study looked at whether the air pressure used in the belly during laparoscopic gallbladder surgery can cause swelling in the airway. 66 adults having planned gallbladder surgery were randomly assigned to either low or standard pressure. Researchers used ultrasound to measure airway thickness before and after the procedure to see if higher pressure leads to more swelling, which could affect breathing tube removal.
