AI stethoscope outperforms doctors alone in spotting Kids' heart defects

Summary

This study tested whether artificial intelligence (AI) can help primary care doctors find congenital heart disease (CHD) in children more accurately than doctors using a stethoscope alone. Over 200 children from two hospitals in China participated, and their heart sounds were recorded with an electronic stethoscope. The AI system, trained on thousands of heart sounds, achieved about 90% accuracy. The goal is to give general doctors and nurses a powerful tool to catch heart problems early, especially in places without easy access to heart specialists.
