AI dentists? ChatGPT, gemini, and claude put to the test in root canal diagnosis
NCT ID NCT07281066
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study tested whether three AI chatbots (ChatGPT-4o, Gemini, and Claude) could accurately diagnose tooth root problems and recommend treatments. Researchers compared the AI's decisions to those of dental specialists using information from 120 adult patients. The AI did not interact with patients directly; instead, the research team fed anonymized patient data into the systems. The goal was to see if AI could support dentists in making better diagnoses.
