AI takes on dental surgery: can computers improve jawbone reconstruction?

NCT ID NCT07256730

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests two ways to rebuild a narrow jawbone so dental implants can be placed. One method uses an AI-designed 3D guide, the other relies on the surgeon's freehand skill. Both use an electromagnetic mallet to split the bone. The trial will enroll 22 adults aged 18-40 with thin upper jawbones and compare bone width and height over 12 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

electromagnetic mallet

What this could lead to

If successful, this could make dental implant surgery more precise and predictable for people with narrow jawbones.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 22 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure is surgical and carries risks like infection or bone fracture.
