AI coach for lung surgery recovery: could it cut complications?
NCT ID NCT07588737
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether an artificial intelligence (AI) system can improve recovery after lung cancer surgery. About 868 patients from 20 hospitals will be randomly assigned to either standard care or standard care plus an AI tool that tracks symptoms, activity, and recovery progress. The AI provides personalized advice and alerts the care team if problems arise. The main goal is to see if the AI reduces the number of days patients experience severe symptoms like pain, fatigue, and shortness of breath within the first month after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- multimodal artificial intelligence system
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a better way to monitor and manage symptoms after lung cancer surgery, potentially speeding up recovery and reducing complications.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively early-stage trial testing a new AI approach, so it may not prove better than standard care. The system relies on patient-reported data, which can be incomplete or inaccurate.
