AI-Powered ECG could spot silent heart weakness before It's too late

NCT ID NCT05867407

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested an artificial intelligence tool that analyzes a standard ECG (heart electrical test) to detect when the heart's main pumping chamber is weak. Over 11,000 adults in outpatient clinics were randomly assigned to have their doctors see the AI results or not. The goal was to see if the AI helped doctors diagnose low ejection fraction (a measure of heart function) more often. The trial was stopped early, so the full impact is unknown.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Anumana Low EF AI-ECG Algorithm (device)

What this could lead to

If it works, this AI could help doctors find hidden heart weakness sooner, leading to earlier treatment and better outcomes.

What could go wrong

The trial was terminated early, so results are limited. The AI only suggests a risk; doctors still need to confirm with other tests. It may not work in all patient groups.
