Chatting about AI calms nerves before surgery, study finds
NCT ID NCT07393945
First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study looked at whether explaining how artificial intelligence (AI) is used in surgery care can lower anxiety and help patients feel more in control before an operation. 120 adults having planned surgery were split into two groups: one got standard info plus a general chat, the other got standard info plus a clear, simple talk about AI's role and that doctors stay in charge. The study did not test any AI technology itself, only the effect of talking about it. Results may help hospitals better prepare patients for surgery in an AI-assisted world.
