Shock or sham? heart rhythm study seeks truth about symptom relief

NCT ID NCT05136131

Summary

This study aims to find out if using an electrical shock to restore a normal heart rhythm (cardioversion) actually improves how people with persistent atrial fibrillation feel day-to-day. Researchers are comparing the real procedure to a fake 'sham' procedure in 100 participants to see if the benefits are real or partly psychological. The main goal is to measure changes in quality of life, energy levels, and daily activity over four weeks.
