Carbon fiber plates could replace wires in heart surgery recovery
NCT ID NCT07366203
First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tests a new medical device—adjustable carbon fiber plates—to close the breastbone after open-heart surgery. About 190 adults will be randomly assigned to receive either the new plates or standard stainless steel wires. The main goal is to see if the plates keep the breastbone stable one month after surgery, with fewer complications like infections or the need for repeat procedures.
