Skull air pockets linked to optic nerve changes?

NCT ID NCT07451080

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looked at 100 adults to see if a common anatomical variation—an air pocket in a small bone near the eye socket (anterior clinoid process)—affects the shape of the optic canal and the thickness of the nerve layer at the back of the eye. Using CT scans and eye imaging (OCT), researchers compared measurements between people with and without this air pocket. The goal was simply to understand the relationship, not to test a treatment.
