Knee breakthrough? stitching torn ACL may be as good as full reconstruction

NCT ID NCT02310854

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested whether stitching a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) back together works as well as the standard surgery of rebuilding it with a hamstring tendon. 48 active adults aged 18-30 with a first-time ACL tear took part. The main goal was to see if both approaches lead to similar knee function and ability to return to daily and sports activities one year after surgery.
