Knee surgery showdown: stitch the stump or cut it off?

NCT ID NCT07236593

First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looked at a common knee surgery for ACL tears. Doctors wanted to see if saving and stitching the torn ligament stump during surgery could prevent the bone tunnel from widening, which can cause problems later. 190 patients with recent ACL injuries were split into two groups: one got the new stump-saving technique, the other got the standard approach. After a year, CT scans checked tunnel size and position to compare results.
