ACL surgery showdown: one tendon vs. two in knee repair

NCT ID NCT03433170

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study compared two surgical methods for repairing a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) using the patient's own hamstring tendons. One method used only the semitendinosus tendon, while the traditional method used both the semitendinosus and gracilis tendons. The goal was to see if using just one tendon affected leg strength differently. The study included 42 people aged 16 and older with an ACL injury who were candidates for surgery.
