Can a common herpes drug speed up meningitis recovery?

NCT ID NCT05452928

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 11, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tests whether the antiviral drug aciclovir (or its cousin valacyclovir) helps adults with HSV-2 meningitis feel better faster. About 150 participants will receive either the drug or a placebo, and researchers will compare symptom scores after 7 days. The goal is to see if aciclovir reduces headache, neck stiffness, and other meningitis symptoms more effectively than no treatment.
