Can Twice-Weekly casts fix club foot faster?
NCT ID NCT07554092
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
Club foot is a common birth defect where a baby's foot is twisted out of shape. The standard treatment uses weekly plaster casts to gradually correct the foot. This study tests whether changing the cast twice a week instead of once works just as well or better. About 144 babies under 6 months old will be randomly assigned to either the standard or accelerated casting group, and doctors will compare foot X-rays after treatment to see which method gives better correction.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Ponseti casting (serial plaster casts applied to the foot)
- What this could lead to
- If accelerated casting works as well or better, it could shorten treatment time and reduce the burden on families, especially in hot climates or low-resource settings.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 144 babies, so results may not apply to all cases. Accelerated casting could increase skin problems or other complications.
