New dissolving heart patch tested to fix common birth defect

Summary

This study tested a new absorbable device designed to close a hole in the heart wall, known as an atrial septal defect (ASD). The device is implanted via a minimally invasive catheter procedure and is designed to be absorbed by the body over time. The trial enrolled 165 patients to see if this new device is safe and effective at closing the defect without causing major complications.
