New PET scan may replace risky vein test for hormone-driven high blood pressure

NCT ID NCT06833437

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special PET/CT scan (68Ga-Pentixafor) is as good as the standard adrenal vein sampling (AVS) for diagnosing a specific form of high blood pressure caused by a hormone imbalance (primary aldosteronism with extra cortisol). About 178 adults with adrenal nodules will be randomly assigned to one test first, then the other. The goal is to see if the PET scan can accurately identify which adrenal gland is causing the problem, potentially avoiding the more invasive vein test.
