New scan may replace risky procedure for diagnosing hormone-related high blood pressure

NCT ID NCT06833437

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests whether a special PET/CT scan (68Ga-Pentixafor) is as good as the standard, more invasive adrenal vein sampling for diagnosing a specific type of high blood pressure caused by a hormone imbalance (primary aldosteronism with cortisol excess). About 178 adults with adrenal nodules will be randomly assigned to one test or the other, and the accuracy will be checked by measuring blood pressure and hormone levels after surgery. If the scan works well, it could offer a simpler, safer way to identify patients who can be cured by removing one adrenal gland.
