Engineered immune cells take aim at Hard-to-Treat cancers

NCT ID NCT04429451

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing a new treatment called 4SCAR-PSMA T cells for people whose cancers have a specific marker called PSMA. The therapy involves collecting a patient's own immune cells, modifying them to better recognize and attack cancer cells, and infusing them back. Up to 100 participants with advanced or recurrent PSMA-positive tumors will be enrolled to see if the treatment is safe and can shrink tumors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

4SCAR-PSMA T cells (a type of immune cell therapy)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for certain cancers that express PSMA, potentially shrinking tumors or slowing disease progression.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase trial (Phase I/II) with only 100 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Side effects from CAR-T therapy can be severe, including immune reactions and organ damage.
