New PET scan may end guesswork after head & neck cancer radiation

NCT ID NCT07417605

First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looks at a new type of PET scan (called 4D dynamic LAFOV FDG-PET) to see if it can tell the difference between cancer that remains after radiation treatment and swelling caused by the radiation itself. About 180 adults who finished radiation for head and neck cancer will get this scan 3 months after treatment. The goal is to improve accuracy so doctors know whether to treat leftover cancer or just monitor inflammation.
