Could a simple 3D ultrasound replace a surgical scope for bleeding diagnosis?
NCT ID NCT07309692
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two methods for finding the cause of abnormal bleeding in women aged 40-55: a non-invasive 3D ultrasound and a more invasive hysteroscopy (a camera inserted into the uterus). Researchers will check how accurate the 3D ultrasound is compared to hysteroscopy. The goal is to see if the simpler ultrasound can reliably diagnose the problem, potentially avoiding the need for a surgical procedure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, 3D ultrasound could become a reliable, less invasive first step for diagnosing perimenopausal bleeding, reducing the need for hysteroscopy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage diagnostic comparison study. 3D ultrasound may not be accurate enough to replace hysteroscopy, and results may not apply to all patients.
