3D-Printed teeth: a cheaper alternative to zirconia crowns?
NCT ID NCT07522671
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether 3D-printed resin crowns and bridges work as well as traditional milled zirconia ones for people with dental implants. Sixty adults who need one or two implant-supported restorations in the lower front jaw will receive either a 3D-printed resin or a zirconia restoration. Researchers will track how long each restoration lasts, any complications, gum health, bone changes, and patient satisfaction over one year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
3D-printed resin dental restoration (CROWNTEC)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more affordable and faster way to make dental crowns and bridges for implant patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants and a short 12-month follow-up. The 3D-printed resin may not be as durable as zirconia in the long run.
