3D printing a safer smile: custom guard aims to protect babies during surgery

NCT ID NCT04422847

Summary

This study is testing a new tool to make anesthesia safer for babies and toddlers having surgery to repair a cleft lip or palate. Researchers are creating a custom, soft silicone tray using 3D scanning and printing to fit over the cleft during the procedure. The goal is to protect delicate mouth tissues from damage and make it easier for doctors to place the breathing tube.
