Could a 3 oz water test replace scopes for tracheostomy patients?

NCT ID NCT06120790

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 33 times

Summary

This study tests a new 3-ounce water swallowing protocol for people with tracheostomies to see if it can safely detect aspiration (liquid going into the airway). Researchers will compare the water test results with standard camera-based swallow exams. The goal is to find a simpler, less invasive way to check swallowing safety in this group.
