A form of hyperthyroidism caused by overproduction of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) due to pathology outside of the thyroid gland, namely in the hypothalamus or pituitary gland. Secondary hyperthyroidism is characterized by elevated TSH levels and elevated T3/T4 levels.
